Malpais de la Arena

The Malpaís de La Arena Natural Monument is located in the center of the municipality of La Oliva. This beautiful Natural Monument arose approximately ten thousand years ago thanks to one of the last volcanic eruptions of the island of Fuerteventura. Since the origin of this gorgeous landscape of great beauty and strange shapes, it has been practically unchanged by human hands, and precisely because of this in Malpaís de La Arena you can find some of the best populations of tabaibas, tarabillas, gorse and lichens of the Canary archipelago. In Malpaís we can also see La Arena Volcano, which is 420 meters high and the highest point of this beautiful natural monument.

La Atalayita

The settlement of La Atalayita is in the Valle de Pozo Negro, in the east of Fuerteventura. This archaeological site dates back to the times of the island’s first natives, called ‘mahos’ or ‘majos’. Nowadays, the Visitor Centre allows us to enter constructions that are over six centuries old. It is exciting to discover the history of this settlement, which was used as a night-time refuge, shelter from the elements and somewhere to hide from attacks. We recommend climbing the peak to get an extraordinary panoramic view of the settlement.
